Vitamin D found to activate T-cells to fight colorectal cancer cells

Researchers over at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have revealed through a new study published in journal Gut that people with high levels of vitamin D in their bloodstream are at less risk of developing colorectal cancer.
The latest research is the first attempt to examine a link between vitamin D and the immune response to cancer. “The finding adds to a growing body of research showing that vitamin D – known as the “sunshine vitamin” because it is produced by the body in response to sunlight exposure – plays a key role in cancer prevention”, reads a press release.
Senior author Shuji Ogino said that their researched suggested an immune system boosting role for vitamin D wherein it activated T cells that recognize and attack cancer cells.
