INDORE: Yet another death due to suspected swine flu was reported at state-run MY Hospital on Thursday. One-year-old girl, who was referred from private hospital died soon after she was admitted to the swine flu ward. Patient was undergoing treatment at Index Medical College and Hospital for almost a week. On Thursday, when her health condition deteriorated, she was referred to MY Hospital.
However, in-charge, dean, MGM College, Dr Sanjay Dixit did not confirm the death due to swine flu.
"We could not take sample as she was dead at the time of admission. Case sheet and medical investigation suggested that it was bacterial infection that led to death of the patient," he said.
Meanwhile, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) report revealed another shocker. According to data compiled, a total of 30 swab samples were sent for tests to Jabalpur-based laboratory in January, of which only six confirmed positive to swine flu. However, in contradictory, joint director (health), Dr Sharad Pandit said, "Of the total 30 samples, 13 were confirmed positive in January. Seven suspected patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals."
Referral from private hospital in last minutes is not new as yet another 60-year-old female patient suffering from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) was referred from Bombay Hospital to MY Hospital owing to complications. On Wednesday, a suspected death was reported as a 35-year-old woman hailing from city's Residency area died during the course of treatment at MY Hospital. The woman was shifted to the hospital from the CHL Hospital on Wednesday only. She was admitted at the CHL hospital since January 13, but just within 10 minutes of being shifted to the Swine Flu ward of the MY Hospital.
Meanwhile, Commissioner, Indore division, Sanjay Dubey held a meeting with the dean, MGM College, joint director (health), chief medical and health officer to review the case sheet of the patients, who died during the course of treatment at different hospitals.
Sources said that it was found that health management of few swine flu afflicted patients was improper following which commissioner asked to issue notices to the hospitals.
"Four hospitals have been found flouting the guidelines for treating the swine flu patients. Notices will be issued to Bombay Hospital, CHL Hospital, Choithram Hospital and SAIMS," said joint director (health), Dr Sharad Pandit.
